Thinking of Buying a Kindle in 2021? Here are 9 reasons why you should!

Updated: Aug 19, 2021

I bought my Amazon Kindle way back in 2019 and have been its loyal user ever since.I remember waiting for Amazon Prime day sale because that's when kindle’s are on a discount. As soon as the sale started, I bought myself the Kindle Paperwhite 10th generation. Cannot describe how excited I was for the delivery! To say the least, it has been a life-changing decision. Let's dive into the 9 Reasons why you should buy a Kindle in 2021.

1. Reduces the Reading Friction

Owning a Kindle reduces the friction between the time you purchase the book and want to start reading it. How many times have you come across a recommendation that you are truly inspired by and pumped to read but by the time you place the order and receive the copy the inspiration goes down the hill. With Kindle, you know you can purchase and start reading the book the next minute. This has in turn increased the number of books I get through in a year.

2. Reduces Clutter

Well, I do understand the feeling of holding a book, its smell, the sound it makes while turning the pages but with our current lifestyle and the reduced living spaces, having a compact, light-weight kindle lying on the bedside table taking the tiniest physical space and carrying your very own library of books is just the most practical thing.

3. Has its own Dictionary

Isn’t reading books the best way to come across and pick new words. Kindle has an inbuilt dictionary that lets you learn the meaning of new words. It also tracks all the words that you have learnt into a Vocabulary Builder which you can skim through as a revision of new words you learnt.

4. Ease of Reading

The physical books have a fixed font size and style that you have to read through even if you may not find it the most comfortable. But in a kindle you can customise font size, font styles and adjust the brightness as per your liking. It almost feels like you’re reading a paperback. It's super lightweight and my tiny hands can hold it easily. Kindle also had a recent update to switch to Dark mode! How cool is that!

5. Travel Companion

My friends and family live all over the country. So every time I travel to visit them, kindle is my go-to companion, It occupies the tiniest of the space in my backpack and is ready to go! The paperwhite edition also has a back-lit light which helps you read in the dark. It is also water-proof so yay to beach vacays, soaking in the sun and catching up on some reading!

6. Kindle Unlimited Subscription

Kindle also comes with a monthly subscription, for just Rs. 169/-, you can add up to 10 books in the kindle library, read, return, add and repeat. The kindle unlimited library keeps getting updated so you may want to add some of your to-be-read books to the wishlist and check if it's available for free. Some of my favourite recommendations that are currently free from the Kindle Unlimited Section for you are:

  1. Immortals of Meluha ( The Shiva Trilogy) by Amish Tripathi

  2. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen. R. Covey

  3. Sita: Warrior of Mithila by Amish

  4. Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

  5. Think Straight: Change your thoughts, Change your Life by Darius Foroux

  6. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

7. The Highlights

One of the best features of the kindle is that it lets you highlight phrases. All of this gets saved as notes within the kindle. You can connect it to the Readwise App and Notion App to have your very own database of all your book highlights.

8. Makes you Regret a little less

How often do you get your hopes high up with expectations from a book and it ends up as a regret. You would drearily complete the book and may leave it unread halfway. With a physical book, it would sit right in front of your eyes making you regret each time it catches your sight but with a Kindle, it would just be sitting quietly in the tiniest corner of your Kindle library. Out of Sight, out of Mind, right?

9. Additional Features

You can also add your academic pdfs or other pdf resources and use the kindle as a secondary device. Kindle also a feature to Read-out-Loud to you though I do not personally prefer it. It remembers the last page you read of a book, even if you have left the book unread for months you can always come back and start from where you left.

In conclusion, it may seem like it's an expensive device for starters but I promise you will reap its benefits soon. Its compact size, portability and ease of use makes reading so convenient. In times like this, when we are distracted by the slightest, it's the most practical way to get our daily reading done.

Do you already own a Kindle? If so, how has been your experience? If you are on the fence, I would glad to answer any of your questions in the comments section below.
